Merkle<\/a>\u00a0(@commnatural) has collected a lot of the sketches from our workshop in a blog post on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/commnatural.com\/2014\/08\/11\/illustrating-ecology-conferences-that-is\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Illustrating Ecology\u2026conferences, that is<\/a>. Some of the sketches in that compilation foreshadow a project\u00a0WK15 participants from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/mri.scnatweb.ch\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mountain Research Initiative<\/a>\u00a0(MRI) have initiated. These scientist scicommers have launched a Twitter media blitz, with mountain research ecologists describing their work in illustrations, photos, and creative writing. Those who still have the energy can follow the event with dinner and drinks.<\/p>\n<p><b>It\u2019s no coincidence we\u2019re hosting this mixer now.<br>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>There is an exciting scicomm undercurrent at this year\u2019s conference:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/advancingecocomm.wordpress.com\/esacommsection\/\">The petition for a new ESA section dedicated to scicomm<\/a> nearly has the requisite 50 signatures.<\/li>\n<li>WK15 participants and other ESA-goers are exploring their own penchants for innovative <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23scicomm%20%23esa2014&amp;src=typd\">scicomm<\/a>. We\u2019ve read abstract-inspired poetry, had glimpses into notebooks overflowing with drawings, spotted social media discussions about art in science (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23sciart%20%23esa2014&amp;src=typd\">#sciart<\/a>), and seen <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/alan_townsend\/status\/499228654803890177\/photo\/1\">slides using researchers\u2019 sketches<\/a> to convey key points.
